Yohir Akerman is President of Global Investigations & LATAM Region at Guidepost Solutions. In this role, he helps lead the firm’s Global Investigations practice and oversees Guidepost’s Latin America region, with teams and offices in New York, Miami, Mexico City, and Bogotá, supporting work across the region and beyond.

Mr. Akerman is an experienced investigator whose work spans high stakes investigations, complex disputes, fraud and corruption matters, litigation support, asset tracing, and strategic risk issues across jurisdictions, industries, and markets. He works with companies, boards, counsel, investors, senior executives, business owners, family offices, and high profile individuals on matters where strategic thinking, discretion, judgment, and reliable facts are critical.

While much of his work is centered in the United States, many of his engagements have international dimensions involving Latin America, Europe, Africa, China related matters, and Russia linked issues. These matters frequently include allegations of misconduct, corporate fraud, corruption, sanctions related concerns, national security concerns, reputational risk, complex commercial disputes, and intelligence needs across jurisdictions.

In Latin America, Mr. Akerman works with a regional platform that combines local knowledge, trusted source networks, investigative experience, and international standards to help clients understand risk, assess options, and make informed decisions. A core part of his role is building and managing strong investigative teams, expanding Guidepost’s presence in important markets, and ensuring that the firm’s work gives clients the clarity and strategy they need to make real decisions.

Mr. Akerman has led sensitive investigations involving government corruption, corporate fraud, judicial interference, and asset tracing in multiple jurisdictions. His work has included matters involving internal misconduct, concealed assets, and complex cross border disputes.

Mr. Akerman was one of the leading field investigators in the Chevron matter related to environmental litigation in Ecuador, at the time one of the largest legal disputes in the world. His investigative work contributed to the identification of a key witness who provided evidence of judicial fraud, fabricated evidence, and misconduct that became central to the litigation, helping establish that Chevron had been the victim of a broader fraud and extortion scheme.

He has also led investigations into significant fraud schemes, including a multi-million-dollar fraud involving one of the largest automotive parts manufacturers in Mexico and Central America, where employees were siphoning company funds. He has conducted asset tracing and recovery support across many jurisdictions, identifying concealed assets later pursued through civil litigation.

Before joining Guidepost Solutions, Mr. Akerman served as managing partner at Custom Information Services, an investigative firm focused on Latin America that was acquired by Guidepost Solutions in 2019. Earlier in his career, he was a senior case manager at a global investigations firm, where he handled high-stakes investigative and litigation support matters.

Mr. Akerman is a lawyer and political scientist by training, with additional studies in economics. He began his career as an investigative journalist in Colombia, serving as Editor-at-Large for Poder magazine and leading editorial operations for seven regional editions published in partnership with Televisa. He remains active in public discourse as a columnist for Cambio magazine and is frequently quoted by the Inter-American Dialogue.

In 2025, his work at Guidepost Solutions was recognized by Leaders League in Peru for litigation support, forensics, and complicated investigations. Mr. Akerman has also served as a featured speaker at the International Bar Association on cybersecurity attacks and strategic planning in complex cross border investigations.
