Morgan Hassler brings over 31 years of diverse experience in law enforcement, threat assessment, crisis intervention, and security consulting. A recognized expert in behavioral threat assessment and violence prevention, Morgan advises private sector clients—including Fortune 500 companies—on managing organizational risk through practical, evidence-based strategies. He specializes in evaluating operations, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing solutions to mitigate security threats, including active assailant risks.

Since joining Guidepost as a Senior Consultant, Morgan has led a broad portfolio of projects supporting clients across the education, healthcare, financial, government, and corporate sectors, as well as high net worth individuals. His consulting practice focuses on enhancing organizational preparedness, building effective threat assessment capabilities, strengthening physical security, and improving prevention frameworks.

Morgan is a Certified Threat Manager (CTM), one of fewer than 300 professionals worldwide to hold this prestigious designation. The CTM is a rigorous certification requiring a comprehensive examination and ongoing continuing education in the field of behavioral threat assessment. As part of a collaborative national network of threat assessment professionals, Morgan works alongside experts across education, healthcare, government, and the private sector to advance research and best practices in preventing incidents of targeted violence.

He has completed advanced training in both threat assessment and crisis negotiation, including the Gavin de Becker & Associates Advanced Threat Assessment Academy (2022), the UK Counter Terrorism Negotiation Course (2023), and the FBI National Crisis Negotiation Course (2008). These programs reflect his commitment to global best practices and continuous professional development in crisis negotiation, behavioral threat assessment/violence prevention and intervention.

Prior to joining Guidepost, Morgan served for 30 years with the Baltimore County Police Department, rising through progressively senior ranks. He led investigations across multiple specialized units—including Robbery, Financial Crimes, Sex Crimes, and Cyber Crime. He served as a crisis and hostage negotiator for 23 years, during which he responded to hundreds of critical incidents in jurisdictions throughout Maryland. As Commander of the Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team, he developed incident-specific negotiation and management strategies which contributed to peaceful resolutions. His work helped shape department-wide training and deployment protocols for critical incidents as well as protests. Morgan regularly shared his experience with students in the FBI National Crisis Negotiation Course at the FBI Academy in Quantico and provided training to law enforcement agencies across North America.

Morgan is a Certified Police Instructor in Maryland and an in-demand speaker on topics including threat assessment, law enforcement ethics, white-collar crime, and crisis response. He is a longtime member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the DC/Mid-Atlantic Chapter, which encompasses Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, and North Carolina.

He has led large-scale exercises, including a Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP)-compliant full-scale active assailant drill at SECU Arena for Towson University, and has consulted on numerous high-profile and complex investigations, particularly those involving campus threats and multi-agency coordination.

Since 2008, Morgan has served as an adjunct professor at two universities, teaching courses in behavioral threat assessment, criminal investigation, ethics, and white-collar crime. In 2020, he was honored with the Dr. Rose Dawson Excellence in Teaching Award by Stevenson University for his outstanding contributions to professional and academic instruction.
