Daniel Coronel is a director at Guidepost Solutions and brings more than a decade of experience in cybersecurity, offensive security, software security, forensic technology investigations, and technology risk assessment. Mr. Coronel specializes in artificial intelligence security, penetration testing, source code review, analysis of software systems, and cybersecurity risk management, helping organizations identify vulnerabilities, investigate technical incidents, assess emerging technologies, and mitigate risk across enterprise, cloud, and modern application environments.
Mr. Coronel has extensive experience assessing artificial intelligence and machine learning systems, including the development and application of testing methodologies designed to evaluate AI-related risks. His work includes investigations involving prompt injection, model manipulation, tool abuse, data exposure, unsafe system behaviors, and other emerging AI threats. He also conducts forensic assessments of AI-enabled applications to evaluate how models and integrated systems functioned during security incidents, determine the effectiveness of safeguards and controls, and identify technical factors that may have contributed to unintended outcomes. His AI work includes investigations of autonomous and multi-agent systems, including the review of agent tool permissions, sandbox configurations, agent transcripts, and communications between agents.
At Guidepost, Mr. Coronel advises clients on artificial intelligence security, forensic examinations of software systems, software and source code assessments, cybersecurity investigations, penetration testing, cloud security, and technology risk management. He leads complex engagements involving vulnerability identification, threat modeling, security architecture reviews, and adversarial testing of modern technology environments. His experience includes evaluating enterprise applications, mobile applications, IoT, cloud-native infrastructure, containerized workloads, and AI-enabled systems to help organizations understand security risks, investigate technical concerns, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
A significant portion of Mr. Coronel’s work focuses on the investigation of software systems and emerging technologies. He conducts detailed examinations of application source code, system architecture, deployment configurations, logs, and operational records to determine how systems behaved, why specific outcomes occurred, and whether security controls functioned as intended. His investigations support matters involving security incidents, software failures, unauthorized functionality, technology disputes, and emerging AI-related risks. By reconstructing technical events and tracing vulnerabilities or behaviors to their source, he provides clients with clear, defensible findings regarding the security, reliability, and operation of complex technology systems.
Prior to joining Guidepost, Mr. Coronel held leadership and consulting roles focused on offensive security, application security, and cybersecurity assessment services, including for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the U.S. military. He directed multidisciplinary teams responsible for delivering penetration testing, red team engagements, application security reviews, and technical assessments for large enterprise clients. In these roles, he provided strategic oversight for testing methodologies, source code review practices, quality assurance processes, and stakeholder reporting. Throughout these roles, he advised organizations on software security, vulnerability management, security controls, and cyber defense effectiveness.
Mr. Coronel also has extensive experience conducting penetration testing and adversarial security assessments across enterprise, cloud, web application, mobile, and emerging technology environments. Through these engagements, he evaluates the effectiveness of security controls, identifies exploitable weaknesses, simulates real-world attack scenarios, and helps organizations understand their exposure to evolving threats. His offensive security experience complements his investigative work by providing insight into how vulnerabilities can be introduced, discovered, and exploited in practice.
Mr. Coronel holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Texas at El Paso. He maintains several industry-recognized certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Expert Penetration Tester (CEPT), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and Certified Penetration Tester (CPT).
