Federal Firearms Licensee

Overview

The client, a federal firearms licensee (FFL), has a large customer base in the southern United States. On average the FFL conducts 50–100 firearm transactions a day and has been in business for over 30 years. As a federal firearms licensee, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) initiated a compliance inspection pursuant to the Gun Control Act (GCA). The dealership FFL was flagged for several regulatory violations related to its Acquisition and Deposition (A&D) recordkeeping.

Guidepost Solutions

The Guidepost team leveraged existing relationships on the national and local level to ensure the client had the components needed to be fully compliant, and ultimately update its internal processes. We walked the client through every step of the compliance inspection process, including being an on-site liaison for ATF visits and meetings. Our team was able to identify gaps in the FFL’s internal procedures which contributed to non-compliant action-items. Our experts also vetted, selected, and implemented industry-specific software, bandwidth hardware and physical security systems to modernize its operational capabilities. Guidepost worked alongside the client to complete the ATF inspection amid delays due to the global pandemic.

Benefit to Client

Guidepost ushered the client into the 21st century with cloud-based tools to improve its operational efficacy and maintain a new recordkeeping methodology. We also facilitated an upgrade of the dealership’s inventory control system. After implementation, Guidepost provides spot compliance checks to keep the executive team in compliance with ATF regulations.
