Cypress College Campus Safety
Overview
Cypress College, a member of the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD), commissioned a thorough physical security assessment of its campus located in Cypress, California. The college engaged Guidepost to identify the operational functionality of its existing security program and determine the level of effectiveness of the security electronics technology systems currently in use. The college required further evaluation of the capability of the campus’ existing individual technology systems to operate and communicate with each other on a uniform platform, to create a ‘force multiplier’ for the Cypress campus safety officers on site. The college aimed to develop a go-forward, phased approach to upgrade their physical security posture.

Our team began with identifying the existing security electronics systems including access control, video surveillance and intrusion detection and assessing the systems devices’ existing functionality and operational use. We engaged the key stakeholders to understand the future vision for the Cypress college security program, which provided us with an intimate understanding of the college culture, security concerns and the need to provide sustainable and scalable solutions. We analyzed and identified the current system’s capability to support and meet the college’s future security vision. We then created technical standards and device placement matrices to support future systems deployment and governance, setting expectations for physical security deployment.

Cypress College Campus’s security program is now equipped to evolve its physical security program with governance documentation and an understanding of capital and operational investment to support technology lifecycle, and implement a phased upgrade program of security. Our team ensured that the college is situated to make decisions that will enhance the physical security posture of its facilities and maintain a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
