In the 1990s and early 2000s, the company became a victim of violent extortion by illegal armed groups in Colombia (FARC, AUC, and others) and made payments to those groups. Later, the company paid a fine in the United States following an agreement with the Department of Justice. Currently, the company and its former executives are the subjects of criminal investigations in Colombia and a civil case in Florida in which the relatives of people killed in the armed conflict are seeking reparations from the company. Guidepost Solutions has conducted independent investigations into the allegations against the company; developing evidence regarding individual deaths and other crimes and misconduct by plaintiffs’ attorneys, analyzing witness testimony, and providing intelligence and other litigation support services regarding the key actors in government, plaintiffs, media and judiciary, among others. The evidence, intelligence and analysis presented by Guidepost Solutions have been critical to the litigation strategy for the company and its counsel.
