Scott A. Claffee

Scott A. Claffee is a seasoned investigator and former federal prosecutor with an in-depth investigative background. His experience includes representing executives in criminal cases and related administrative proceedings, including grand jury investigations and enforcement actions by the Department of Justice (DOJ), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other federal and state entities, and assisting corporations with internal investigations and responses to criminal and civil subpoenas, with a focus on securities and accounting fraud, the False Claims Act, FCPA, and public corruption. Mr. Claffee has also investigated a wide range of cyber offenses, including hacking, identity theft, computer fraud, and internet piracy.

Most recently, Mr. Claffee was a trial attorney in the Counterintelligence & Export Control Section of the DOJ’s National Security Division where for most of his tenure he supported two of the largest U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and represented the DOJ on the FBI-New York Counterintelligence Task Force.

At the DOJ, Mr. Claffee’s work focused on prosecuting espionage, foreign investment and influence, sanctions violations, and technology export offenses, while collaborating with inter-agency partners to counter nation-state cyber threats and safeguard U.S. intelligence equities in criminal proceedings. He was invited by the Departments of State and Homeland Security to join multiple foreign delegations as a featured speaker on counter-proliferation tools and export controls compliance before audiences of international regulators, diplomats, and law enforcement agents.

Previously, Mr. Claffee served as a special assistant U.S. attorney in the Cybercrime Unit of the Eastern District of Virginia. He began his legal career as a litigation associate at Mayer Brown LLP, focusing on white-collar defense, internal investigations, and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Claffee’s exceptional service has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service (2019, 2023, 2025) and the Assistant Attorney General for National Security’s Award for Excellence (2022, 2024).

This advanced qualification is based on the ability to accurately identify and analyze the style and quality of wines and spirits around the world, including through blind tasting.
