Lee Garner brings to Guidepost more than fifteen years of experience specializing in complex litigation, investigations, corporate governance, and compliance. During his tenure with leading U.S. law firms, he advised on “bet-the-company” litigation and led high-profile investigations in the public and private sectors. Mr. Garner’s expertise includes advising multinational corporations, boards of directors, and government entities on corporate governance issues, internal investigations, and regulatory challenges.
During more than a decade of practice in Chicago – first at Skadden’s Chicago office, then as a partner in the Chicago office of Quarles & Brady – Mr. Garner led investigations for leading national banks and mutual fund companies, consumer products companies, auto industry multinationals, and local governments arising from securities and public interest litigation, mergers and acquisitions, Chapter 11 reorganizations, and regulatory enforcement actions by the DOJ and the SEC. He advised on legal challenges related to anti-fraud and anti-bribery regulations, consumer protection, data privacy, and corporate governance. Mr. Garner also has a demonstrated passion for mentorship, having developed best practices guidelines and participated in training junior lawyers for investigations and depositions.
In recent years, Mr. Garner developed a niche real estate development business specializing in rehabilitating historic single-family homes in Chicago.
During his legal career, Mr. Garner also dedicated time to pro bono efforts on behalf of refugees, including securing asylum for refugees from Togo, Nepal, and Albania.
