Andrew Abernathy is a senior consultant at Guidepost and specializes in emergency management, crisis management, and economic development planning. Mr. Abernathy is a seasoned consultant with a proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex projects within budget and time constraints. He is an experienced emergency and crisis management professional with expertise across FEMA, NIST, ISO, NFPA and UN standards, as well as the EMAP accreditation process.
Prior to Guidepost, Andrew worked in emergency management consulting supporting dozens of clients ranging from federal, tribal, state, and local governments to Fortune 500 clients to strengthen preparedness, respond to and recovery from disasters, and build community resilience. Mr. Abernathy has provided critical support for response and recovery operations for federally declared disasters, including wildfires in the State of California and working with Salt Lake County Emergency Management during COVID-19 response and recovery operations.
His notable clients include Meta, Airbnb, State of Colorado, State of Maryland, Texas Medical Center, and the Los Angeles International Airport. Mr. Abernathy has extensive experience developing emergency and crisis management planning, designing training and exercises, and building emergency and crisis management programs.
Prior to his time in consulting, Andrew worked for the Sonoma County Economic Development Board where he led business resilience and recovery initiatives following the Sonoma Complex Fire and the Kincaid Fire. He managed the implementation of a five-year economic and business recovery plan that resulted in the execution of strategic projects including affordable housing, business retention/attraction, sustainability initiatives, workforce development, tourism, and financial support for small businesses.
