Matthew Zandi, Senior Managing Director of Guidepost Solutions coheads the Los Angeles office and is the Chair of Guidepost’s Workplace Investigations practice group. He has over twenty-four years of civil and criminal trial, complex litigation and investigation experience in both public and private sectors as a former Orange County Deputy District Attorney, Senior Civil Rights Trial Lawyer at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Assistant U.S Attorney, and counsel at Nixon Peabody. Mr. Zandi has a broad scope of experience and expertise, including labor and employment, workplace and government investigations, civil rights, health care, Corporate Governance, fraud, and ethics and compliance.

At Guidepost, Mr. Zandi leads client engagements in the most sensitive and confidential investigations, including matters concerning harassment, racial and sexual discrimination, and other issues regarding workplace, employment, and fraud issues where he is relied upon to be a thorough and independent investigator.  He also brings his investigative expertise to matters regarding anti money laundering, fraud and other regulatory compliance issues for international financial institutions.

Mr. Zandi has also contributed well-honed capability and experience to many large-scale regulatory monitorship engagements, including the DOJ appointed monitorship of General Motors and the CVS Aetna merger. Mr. Zandi has also been a member of the Guidepost team assisting the University of Michigan and the Southern Baptist Convention investigation and remediation. Mr. Zandi’s experience also extends to the area of Cannabis regulatory compliance consulting and investigations on behalf of corporations in the U.S., Canada, and South America.

Mr. Zandi is nationally recognized as one of the leading experts in Qui Tam, fraud, and various state and federal whistleblower statutes, compliance, investigation, litigation, and policy. During his tenure as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Zandi oversaw the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Task Force (ACE) where he led investigations and litigations of whistleblower claims and Qui Tam litigations. As an expert, Mr. Zandi taught courses on internal investigations, government fraud, and Qui Tam litigation at DOJ’s National Advocacy Center.

As a Senior Trial Attorney at the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, he led investigations and litigation on various civil rights issues, compliance, monitoring, consent decrees, and sensitive investigations. In recognition of his expertise and efforts, Mr. Zandi was recommended by the President and the Attorney General to serve as Associate Attorney General for the Office of Special Counsel at the DOJ.

In addition, Mr. Zandi has over 30 years of experience in corporate and political campaign management. A veteran consultant, his talents as a strategist and crisis manager have been recognized by the American Association of Political Consultants and his work featured in Campaigns and Elections’ Politics magazine and U.S. News & World Report.
