Laura Jimena Serrano Plata is an experienced Analyst with Guidepost’s team based in Bogota, Colombia. Ms. Serrano works on a wide range of matters, including investigations, due diligence, background analysis, risk assessment and compliance, in Latin America. Before being promoted to Analyst, she began her career with Guidepost as a Researcher, supporting Analysts to produce reports and other deliverables to the firm’s clients.
Prior to joining Guidepost, Ms. Serrano practiced law for Riveros Consulting Group, where she advised the Defensoria del Pueblo of Colombia (Ombudsman’s Office) in the legal and theoretical analysis of the rights concerning social protest, the protection of freedom of expression, the right to internet connectivity as an essential public service and other human rights and business regulations. She also worked as a lawyer for UNESCO Chair in Freedom of Expression in the preparation of the Testimonial Declaration of Catalina Botero Marino, a well-known Colombian rights advocate, in the case of Jineth Bedoya before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
While obtaining her law degree, Ms. Serrano also clerked for the Constitutional Court of Colombia and assisted in the research and drafting of rulings. Prior to that she worked with the NGO Red de Mujeres Victimas y Profesionales, where she oversaw drafting a report concerning the victims of sexual violence in armed conflict for the Colombian Special Jurisdiction for Peace.
Ms. Serrano is a native Spanish speaker and speaks advanced English and French. She is a member of the Colombia Bar Association.
