Larry A. Plutko

Lawrence (Larry) A. Plutko is a nationally recognized expert on matters involving compliance and ethics program development, implementation, and assessment.  He is President of L.A. Plutko and Associates, LLC., a consulting group providing compliance and ethics consulting services for higher education, healthcare, academic medicine, and research organizations.

Prior to founding his consulting company, Mr. Plutko served as the Systemwide Compliance and Ethics Officer for The University of Texas System, headquartered in Austin, Texas.  The University of Texas System comprises nine universities and six health institutions, with 215,000 enrolled students, 88,000 employees, and revenues of $14.4 Billion. As chief compliance and ethics officer, Mr. Plutko directed a compliance program staffed by 17 institutional compliance officers and 315 compliance professionals positioned in Academic Affairs, Health Affairs, Business Affairs, Research, Technology Transfer, Privacy, and Information Security. He joined the University of Texas System in September 2008, reporting to the Chancellor and Board of Regents, and retired in June 2014.

Prior to The University of Texas System, he was the chief corporate compliance and privacy officer at Yale New Haven Health System, headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut from 2005 to 2008.  In this role, he provided chief oversight for the compliance program at the multi-hospital system and provided consultation to Yale University, including its School of Medicine.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Plutko served as the system integrity officer for Providence Health & Services in Seattle, Washington, from 1997 to 2005, and, from 1993 to 1997, as its system director in the Office of Ethics.

In addition to his education, Mr. Plutko completed postgraduate work in philosophy and ethics at Harvard University, Columbia University, and Georgetown University. He served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the University of Washington School of Medicine and taught corporate compliance and business ethics at the Graduate School of Business, Duquesne University and the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business.

Mr. Plutko has provided numerous consultations and presentations on corporate compliance and healthcare and business ethics throughout the country.
