The company received anonymous reports that its managers and vendors within its Central American operation had ties with local drug trafficking cartels. Guidepost Solutions conducted an internal investigation under direction of counsel that identified the vendors and employees involved in the scheme, produced information that allowed the company to rule out any violation of US laws, and provided recommendations to help improve their vetting process. The investigation included considerable time in Central America conducting site visits; interviewing employees; conducting forensic reviews of files, hard drives and emails; developing background investigations of the different subjects; and providing local knowledge and language skills to support the legal team during their in-country visits.
