Port of San Franscisco, Pier 27

Guidepost Solutions transformed Pier 27, a San Francisco waterfront property spanning 10 acres, with a flexible, state-of-the-art security system to also serving as a high-security cruise ship terminal and event space.

Our engagement was spilt into two separate phases; Phase I included security design for the America’s Cup Race, while Phase II required the development of access control, video surveillance systems, intercom-ring down phones and help buttons for the cruise terminal. Our team developed a fully integrated video surveillance system and access control system for the facility, comprising of approximately 140 cameras hardwired to the fiber optic network — all in accordance with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements. In addition, we researched and designed a visual paging system for the cruise terminal. The system will be utilized for paging, digital signage, entertainment programming and mass notification.

Throughout the project, our team closely collaborated with multiple stakeholders including the Port of San Francisco, the City of San Francisco, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The design incorporated Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) elements and considered system capabilities, as well as the evolving architecture to assure maximum functionality, buildability and cost-efficiency.
