When the federal system for verifying new hires was suspended on October 1, companies were left unable to confirm work eligibility or resolve mismatches. The outage raised a serious question: How prepared are employers when E-Verify goes offline? In a recent article by Thomson Reuters, John Connolly states, “The government E-Verify system is not foolproof, right? It’s vulnerable to identity theft, you know, which has been proven. And you know, it’s not a perfect system.” He stressed that E-Verify should be considered one part of a broader compliance strategy, not a guarantee of protection.
