Lisa Gentilcore is a senior managing director in our San Francisco office focusing on investigations, compliance, insider risk, and national security matters. She works with law firms, private sector clients, and others to assess and help build internal security and compliance programs. Prior to joining Guidepost, she led investigations and compliance efforts with both the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Department of Energy.
As a senior managing director, Ms. Gentilcore has managed and conducted internal and whistleblower investigations and conducted export control compliance audits. She also helps companies conduct assessments of their security programs, including regulatory, cyber, and intellectual property controls.
During her 25 years of experience in insider threat, security, intelligence, and compliance, Ms. Gentilcore led investigations and collaborated with the U.S. Intelligence Community, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Department of Defense, and many others on high profile cases. She partnered with the DOJ’s Office of Inspector General to investigate misconduct and conduct sensitive audits.
Prior to retiring from the FBI in 2022, Ms. Gentilcore held several executive positions with the Bureau including as assistant special agent in charge in San Francisco; as the senior executive responsible for global espionage, insider threat, media leaks, and other sensitive national security investigations; and as an assistant inspector conducting compliance reviews. She also served in the U.S. Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic, collaborating with European Union law enforcement on money laundering matters, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, organized crime, and complex financial and cyber investigations.
Following retirement, Ms. Gentilcore was sought out by KBR (formerly Kellogg Brown & Root) to lead the internal review team for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) counterintelligence program. She provided strategic reviews, program assessments, and policy guidance for offices located at the national laboratories and nuclear facilities across the country and DOE Headquarters. Ms. Gentilcore worked tirelessly to ensure the program functioned at the highest levels and complied with applicable laws, policies, and guidance.
Ms. Gentilcore was recognized during her FBI career with several awards from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and was the recipient of the 2010 FBI Director’s Award for her leadership in ethics and compliance.
Prior to joining the FBI, Ms. Gentilcore earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Biology. She conducted research in neuroscience and was an author of several peer reviewed articles and presented her work at national conferences.
