Jami L. Treantafeles

Senior Director

Jami Treantafeles is a former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Diversion Investigator and regulatory compliance consultant with more than 15 years of experience advising DEA registrants on controlled substance compliance, diversion prevention, and inspection readiness. As part of Guidepost Solutions’ DEA Regulatory Compliance practice, she partners with healthcare organizations, pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, pharmacies, researchers, telemedicine providers, and other DEA registrants to strengthen compliance programs, identify regulatory risk, and implement practical solutions that support both regulatory compliance and patient safety.

Ms. Treantafeles combines extensive regulatory experience with a Juris Doctor, providing clients with a unique perspective on the legal and operational requirements of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), DEA regulations, and related federal and state compliance obligations. Her legal education enhances her ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements, evaluate enforcement risk, and provide practical guidance that aligns legal, operational, and business objectives.

During her time at Guidepost, Ms. Treantafeles has led numerous mock DEA inspections and comprehensive controlled substance compliance assessments for hospitals and health systems, manufacturers, distributors, reverse distributors, retail pharmacies, narcotic treatment programs, emergency medical services, researchers, and other DEA registrants nationwide. She evaluates controlled substance security, record-keeping, reporting, suspicious order monitoring systems (SOMS), diversion prevention controls, and overall compliance programs while helping organizations prepare for DEA inspections and regulatory inquiries.

In addition to conducting assessments, Ms. Treantafeles advises executive leadership, compliance officers, pharmacy leadership, legal counsel, and cross-functional teams on regulatory strategy, policy development, and governance surrounding controlled substances. She regularly assists organizations with complex compliance initiatives involving DEA registrations, Schedule I research, manufacturing operations, telemedicine, and controlled substance security.

Prior to joining Guidepost, Ms. Treantafeles served as a Diversion Investigator with the DEA for more than a decade. She conducted complex criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving alleged violations of the Controlled Substances Act and the Chemical Diversion and Trafficking Act. Her investigative responsibilities included overseeing compliance involving the manufacture, distribution, importation, exportation, research, prescribing, and dispensing of controlled substances and listed chemicals across every category of DEA registrant.

Ms. Treantafeles began her DEA career in the Houston Field Division, where she investigated complex diversion matters and served with the Diversion Group, the Tactical Diversion Squad, and with the Houston Police Department. In 2017, she transferred to the Tulsa Resident Office, where she continued leading significant criminal, civil, and regulatory investigations. Her investigative work contributed to numerous criminal convictions, civil penalties, administrative actions, and landmark federal prosecutions, including the first federal indictments of physicians in two Oklahoma judicial districts in decades.

Ms. Treantafeles has testified in federal court and before state and federal grand juries regarding diversion-related matters. She is also an experienced presenter on DEA regulatory compliance, diversion prevention, and controlled substance security, frequently speaking to healthcare organizations, professional associations, law enforcement agencies, and industry groups on evolving regulatory expectations and best practices.

Throughout her career, Ms. Treantafeles has remained committed to education and mentorship, serving as a trainer for new DEA Diversion Investigators and providing practical compliance education to DEA registrants across the country.
