Anthony (“Tony”) A. Cook, managing director at Guidepost Solutions, brings more than 20 years of experience with complex cross-border investigations involving anti-bribery/corruption/FCPA, sanctions evasion, trade-based money laundering, Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), BSA/AML, tax fraud, and public corruption, leading to significant asset recoveries. Mr. Cook advises financial institutions, regulatory agencies, multinational corporations, and legal counsel on navigating complex regulatory frameworks and mitigating financial crime exposure.
At Guidepost, Mr. Cook focuses on managing complex financial investigations, enhancing BSA/AML compliance programs, and providing strategic counsel on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) enforcement, sanctions compliance, and asset recovery. He supports clients facing multi-jurisdictional regulatory scrutiny, forensic accounting challenges, and high-risk compliance evaluations.
Prior to joining Guidepost Solutions, Mr. Cook served in senior federal law enforcement and international diplomatic leadership roles as a special agent and regional attaché with IRS-Criminal Investigation. He oversaw global financial crime operations across more than 30 countries while stationed in London and Dubai. Mr. Cook also served as a U.S. government delegate to the OECD Task Force on Tax Crimes, and led international working groups on financial technology and illicit cryptocurrency investigations.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cook has directed investigations involving global anti-money laundering (AML) and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) compliance, cross-border financial crime investigations, and international regulatory risk. He has developed and managed regional suspicious activity report (SAR) compliance programs, led international law enforcement coalitions, and delivered financial crime training to global regulators and institutions. Additionally, Mr. Cook has served as an expert witness in U.S. District Court and testified in grand jury and trial proceedings on financial crime and regulatory compliance matters.
Mr. Cook holds a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics from Albertus Magnus College. He is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). His professional background includes serving as an adjunct law professor, an ACAMS chapter executive board member, and an advisory panel member for the Global Compliance Institute.
