Susannah Herkert will present “Effective Controls to Guard Against Diversion and Theft: A Former Diversion Investigator’s Perspective.” Drawing on real-world diversion investigations, her session will examine the warning signs that may indicate potential diversion or theft, common operational vulnerabilities that can leave healthcare organizations exposed, and DEA expectations surrounding a strong culture of compliance in the face of ongoing workforce turnover.

William J.C. “Bill” Matthews is a Senior Managing Director at Guidepost Solutions, a retired Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent, and a U.S. Navy veteran. An investigator and advisor by training and practice, Mr. Matthews helps health systems, boards, and counsel strengthen controlled substance compliance, diversion risk controls, and investigation-ready response so they are inspection-ready and incident-ready before scrutiny or a crisis forces the issue.

Executive Vice President, DEA Regulatory Compliance Practice

Susannah Herkert is a nationally recognized expert in the area of pharmaceutical controlled substance investigations and regulatory compliance. As a DEA compliance consultant, Ms. Herkert works with pharmacies and other DEA registrants that have been restricted by their suppliers in evaluating and enhancing their controlled substance polices and processes.
