Steven Murphy brings more than 25 years of global security, risk, and investigative experience to Guidepost, where he serves as managing director. Most recently, as head of Global Investigations at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Special Operations Division (SOD), he led and directed high-stakes investigations and security operations throughout the world focused on corrupt foreign officials, major criminal syndicates, and transnational crimes such as drug and weapons trafficking, money laundering, and the diversion of precursor chemicals. While serving as the head of Global Investigations, Mr. Murphy delivered strategic briefings to members of Congress and government officials on critical issues with clarity and proficiency.
Mr. Murphy’s career included notable assignments as the DEA Country Attaché in Germany and Switzerland. In this role, he was the top-ranking DEA official in the region, serving as the principal advisor to Ambassadors on security and policy matters. He strengthened diplomatic ties as a core member of the Embassy Law Enforcement Working Group, an interagency forum that united leaders in security, law enforcement, and intelligence to share information and coordinate strategy.
Complementing his international roles, Mr. Murphy held senior leadership positions in the Human Resources Division, where he oversaw agency-wide special agent recruitment and hiring, chaired selection panels, and advised senior executives on policy and staffing decisions that shaped the organization’s direction. In these roles, he also managed multimillion-dollar budgets, ensuring resources supported critical mission priorities.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Murphy directed a multi-agency task force in Washington, D.C., bringing structure and sharper focus to complex investigations. As an operations coordinator in the Mexico, Central America, and Canada Division, he integrated intelligence and advanced technology to drive cross-border cases and transform raw data into actionable insights.
